MAKE YOUR BEDROOM ASTHMA FRIENDLY. BEDROOMS harbor allergens from dust to dust mites, dust mites droppings, dog hair, cat dander and a host of other visible and invisible air borne allergens. How could we possibly make our bedrooms to be asthma-safe and healthy to sleep in.
A bedroom has its range of contents and fittings that vary from home to home. These fittings and all that is in a bedroom would be the very source of allergens that trigger all sorts of allergic reactions including the possibility of asthma attacks.
Proper and regular action and changes to contents in the bedroom will go a long way in reducing asthmatic attacks as well as poor sleep. Choose to have sweet night dreams than nasty nightmares.
GOOD BEDROOM HYGIENE AND CLEANLINESS WORKS.
That mattress we sleep on nightly is the primary source of bedroom asthma. WHY? Every slept in mattress is home to millions of dust mites that are too small to be seen by the naked eye. A finger nail can hold up to about 7,000 dust mites, visible only under a powerful microscope. Why are there that many. We shed our skin cells by the "tons" and this becomes an automatic source of feed for these dust mites. What is eaten, needs to be disposed off, and dust mites are known to have up to 24 droppings each per day. Sleeping with millions of dust mites, billions of dust mites droppings; dust mite carcasses, and our very own dead skin cells that is rotting are all allergens to our respiratory tract and system.
Invest in a water based cleaner that can draw almost all of the above allergens off the bed sheet, comforter, mattress and pillows to be "drowned": in water. All of these allergens are of the finest kind and get to be air borne when cleaning is attempted with normal vacuum cleaners. Having an air cleaner or air purifier run through the hours of sleep is further help. Avoid carpets and heavy bedroom curtains, for both are excellent homes to dust mites. Keep sprays and fragrance bottles out of the bedroom.
In short limit exposure of asthma prone individuals to dust. Choose to be clean within the bedroom, by reducing cupboards, shelves and such other physical contents. Also reduce cockroaches, improve upon air cleaning, and avoid pets and footwear into the bedroom. Keep humidity as low as possible. Keep the bedroom door closed. Do ventilate the room after a down pour. Open the windows to allow for air exchange, where more fresh air gets to be let into the room and the volume of used or foul air is removed.
To have a bedroom that is asthma friendly, some effort in keeping clean, with little content is a good way.
