BEDROOM ALLERGIES

HOME DUST CONTROLLED How can we try and control dust within the home.

It is simply plentiful, seems to have no end, and any amount of cleaning brings in more within 24 hours. What then is the choice to minimise, if not able to control or eliminate dust.

Dust is not visible. When you have that morning sun ray streak through the open window, dust is visibly seen "dancing" in the air and "basking" in the sun. Then they land on every other surface top.
DUST TRIGGERS ASTHMA. Does it actually? Dust is blamed for all the respiratory ailments and ill conditions. Dust is the medium of transport for dust mites. When dust lands on cushions and mattress and carpets, these dust mites get an abundant supply of feed. The feed is actually our dead skin cells, which we shed daily, wherever we sit and sleep in.
Dust, dust mites and the DROPPINGS of dust mites are all allergens to plenty of people. Besides triggering asthma and other respiratory conditions, skin allergies also do arise. So, we ought to clean our homes very very often, so as to control, contain and prevent these conditions. Dust is difficult to control. No matter how hard we may try, we can never completely get rid of it because most of it comes in with the air, arises from our clothes, bedding and mattresses, curtains and almost anything and everything that is fabric which shed fluff that floats with air currents and settles on any and every known flat surface in our houses.
There are several ways that you can attempt to control, minimise or remove dust in your home. Within the house keep closet floors clear so as they are easier to clean. Keep items in boxes on shelves or inside cabinets.
Plastic containers with lids help lock in fluff and keep dust out. It is much easier to control dust in arranged shelves and boxed items. Clothes that are not so often worn should be put in plastic bags.
At home, the floor is the largest flat surface area in doors and does become a large "flat basin" to collect and contain dust. Keeping the floor free of boxes, clothing, rugs, magazines and being clutter free allows for better cleaning. DO NOT SWEEP. Every sweep lifts off dust to land on furniture and lamps shades and fittings.
Did you know that your bed is a major distributor of dust? Bed sheet, comforters and blankets collect flakes that are shed from our skin plus it also sheds fiber and sends out dust every time you move or rollover. To minimize the fallout, you should wash the bed sheets weekly. You can also take the cushions on your furniture out for a ‘beating’. Pull them off, take outdoors and shake them.
Carpets are dust mites favorite habitat. Carpets not only absorb dust but produce it as well, make sure that carpets are cleaned occasionally.
Vacuuming carpets may be good, but at least once or twice every week to reduce and control the amount of dust being absorbed in. Use a vacuum cleaner which has a filter that not only will help trap the dust effectively, but has a built in hepa filter as well. After you have cleaned the carpet, always empty the vacuum cleaner and discard the bags. Leaving the bags only helps breed bacteria, that gets flung in the air when you use the vacuum cleaner next. Try and brush your carpets twice or thrice a week to reduce and control dust.
Most dust comes from outside. Ensure that there is a mat on every entrance on your home so that visitors will wipe their shoes before they get inside. Look for cracks in your house where air can flow from the outside and repair them. Curtains help trap dust. Wash them regularly.
Try and keep all pets outside the house. Do bathe and brush them regularly. If allowed indoors, check their paws and wipe them off before they enter the house. Dogs and cats could be are our best pet friends, but they might also carry dust or diseases into the house.
Air purifiers help continous cleaning of indoor air. Choose models that are easy to upkeep and maintenance is not only easy but economical as well.
