A mites life span is about 1 to a few months. Dust mites not just feed on dead skin cells but additionally foods crumbs, fish flakes, pet foods, cereals, and lots of other nutrient-rich items.

How then do we control dust mites population within the home. One technique to handle dust mite infestation is to use plastic or other dust mite impervious sheets or such placements on mattresses and couches. These sheets would assist to minimise accumulation of human and animal skin cells within the surface area of the bed or couch for such surfaces can be easily cleaned and must be cleaned frequently. Another technique to handle mite population is to frequently wash bedding in warm water. Using materials with artificial fibers is yet another method to contain mite population.
