RESIDENCE CLEANING and upkeep is not easy, there are
no set standards of measure and is
very much each his or her own.
Without knowledge of indoor cleaning, or standards to
compare with, homes also become sources of mold,
allergens, chemicals and an assortment of
poisons and toxins in the air? Long term
inhalation can result in serious health consequences.
Poor indoor air quality can affect health of people in areas of
respiration that trigger asthma, sinus and other bronchial
sicknesses, lead to lethargy, poorer concentration, skin
rashes, temperaments uncertainty and a host of
others including lost sleep.
Threats of poor air can seriously affect the health of seniors,
the sick, housebound wives and the younger children, as this group of people primarily remain totally indoors for up to 18 to 20 hours daily.
Old buildings, poor air circulation, little or no ventilation, carpets,
dirty mattresses, used and controlled humidity are all some of the contributive factors to air quality in most bedrooms.
General apathy and for the fact that bedrooms are private domains
lead to clutter; pile up of clothes, magazines and newspapers and
even some time uncleared bins of food wrappings. All these make
it become even more impossible to keep the room free of allergens.
Here are some simple solutions for cleaner bedrooms. Occupants
must take a proactive approach to room cleanliness and do the
necessary for the room to have clean air.
(1) Fresh Air is necessary. Open the windows, early mornings
when air is fresh or after the rain, when the air outside is all
washed and clean. Allow fresh air in and stale air would leave.
Practice often.
(2) Avoid using air fresheners and cleaning chemicals. Both
have heavy chemical contents in their product composition.
In rooms with poor ventilation, these chemicals and artificial
fragrances get to be inhaled. Exposure to these chemicals over
a period of time can trigger bronchial allergies and asthma attacks
that eventually could become long-term expensive medical problems.
(3) Mattresses need attention. All mattresses become home to
millions of dust mites. These mites breed and multiply fast, and our
dead skin cells that we shed is their feed. Naturally they too have
droppings and you can imagine millions of them leaving droppings
all over the mattress. These fecal droppings get air borne with every movement of ours on the mattress, and that is what we inhale,
through the night. Mattresses must be cleaned.
(4) No shoes indoors, especially into the bedrooms. Shoes drag in
everything that you stepped on in the toilets, carpets, walkways,
roads, restaurants and everywhere else. Plenty of nasty breeds can accompany into your house. Shoes are best left on racks outside
the house or just inside the entrance.
(5) Vacuum the entire interior of the bedroom often. This is
necessary to keep off or minimise dust and allergens. Avoid the
traditional vacuums with bags, as they tend to spill via the exhaust,
finer dusts that escape via the pores of the bag. Use cleaners that
are water based and have a hepa filter. Go for maximum in door
protection.
(6) Every bedroom must have a purifier....the right type. When you
stop to check the air you breathe through the night, you will be
surprised at the quantum of allergens, toxins, odor, dust and pollutes
in the air. An air purifier is an absolute necessity for any bedroom,
for this is where 1/3 of our life or more hours is spent.
